Charles & Courtney

Earlier this month I met Charles & Courtney for their engagement session. We started in Baker Park and ended over at the Carroll Creek Promenade. We got some good shots despite losing the light and they both were troppers in the cold weather! Here are a few of my favorites.

Happy Baby

My baby is nearly 6 weeks old and I am finally getting back into the swing of things. I have really learned a lot about myself and mothers in general over these weeks. For one thing, other mothers have always made it look easy taking care of a newborn... I guess they are just waaay better than I am on having absolutely no sleep! Landon got pretty sick when he was 3 weeks old so that really made it difficult since he wasn't eating or sleeping well. This week I was brave enough to run a few errands including taking him to WalMart all by myself. It was scary but what FREEDOM!! :)

To those who are long-time mothers, I just want to say wow, I have so much more respect for you now after experiencing just the start of it! Those who have just become moms - hang in there!! It will get better! Those who are trying or hoping to one day become a mom -- know that reading all the wisdom in all the books in the world still won't prepare you for motherhood. The best wisdom comes from what you learn along the way. And to my Mom- thank you so much for everything. I love you.

Let Your Hair Down... aka 'Trash the Dress'

We offer something in our wedding packages called a "Let Your Hair Down" session, which is the equivilent of what many photographers are calling "Trash the Dress". We prefer calling it Let Your Hair Down because we want to make it available to those Brides may not want to be quite as adventurous as others with a dress they paid so much for and have sentimental attachment to, or maybe want keep as an option for their future daughter to use in her wedding. So for these Brides we keep it simple and try not to get the dress dirtier than what can be taken out with a professional cleaning before the gown is stored.

However, other Brides see no point in keeping around a dress they will never wear again and would prefer to have some really awesome, one-of-a-kind photo keepsakes that that turn the dress into an unusual piece of artwork that will hang on their walls for years to come. For these Brides, we take the more daring approach to the photo shoot and can do anything from playing paintball to floating around in a river. Really, the imagination is the only limit and by the end of the session they truly end up 'trashing' their wedding dress.

These "trash the dress" sessions have been getting more & more publicity as they have become more popular. I wanted to share this article that includes a slideshow to hopefully inspire some Brides who have been thinking about something unusual like this but needed a little extra courage. Again, our sessions don't have to be 'crazy'. If all you want to do is jump on a trampoline or dance around in a field of flowers before preserving your dress, then that is just as beautiful as the extreme. The most important thing is that the photos are all about capturing you.

Wedding Hairstyle Ideas

I know how hard it is to decide on just the right hairstyle for your wedding and I came across this video and this video that I thought might give some Brides a few ideas. For my wedding, my hair was actually too short to do anything interesting with so I ended up using a hairpiece that matched my hair color perfectly and it made it look like I had a really nice updo with curls. The best part was that I played around with it before the wedding and was able to do my hair myself in a matter of about 10 minutes. Always a nice option to keep in mind for those like me who like to do things themselves rather than pay others to do it :)

Mountain Majesty

We are making an enlargement of a photo from Kathy & Wes' wedding for the PB Dye Golf Club to use and I thought the colors turned out so nicely that I just had to share. I think this picture is so beautiful - nature is truly one of the best backdrops anyone could ask for!!

Any day...

I am now officially only 2 days from my due date! I honestly thought that I would have already given birth but it seems this little guy just might be stubborn and follow what I'm told is the stereotype of first babies going past their due date.

Tiffany took a few pictures of me about 2 weeks ago and I guess I've done really well with my weight gain because I had to push my stomach out in the pictures to make my belly really rounded & get that "9-months pregnant" look. She is in process of editing an event so I won't see those pics for awhile but the one above with the baby blocks is what I took using my cell phone camera while I was hanging out playing with my niece & nephew (which I must say: cell cameras were such a great invention! I use mine all the time!) We are naming him using names from each of our grandfathers.

SO... hopefully in a few days here I will be holding my little guy in my arms instead of feeling him roll around in my stomach! Pray for me that I'll have a quick and easy delivery and that he'll be safe and healthy.

Kathy & Wes

Congratulations, Kathy & Wes!

Yesterday we had the honor of sharing in the wedding day of this amazing couple. Let me tell you - this pair and their brood are hard to keep up with! Even grandmothers were on the dance floor "gettin jiggy with it" and having a good time until midnight.

The Beauty of Woman

I wanted to share an image from a recent boudoir session. We've had 2 of these type of sessions in the past month alone which has gotten me thinking about how I've really enjoyed capturing these tasteful kinds of images that make the women feel beautiful and so excited about sharing the images with their husbands. It seems that too often today women beat themselves up over not looking like the famous people on tv or in magazines. But as you can see here, even a "normal" woman's legs can be something beautiful! So this post is in honor of women everywhere that may feel like they are nothing special or maybe aren't appreciated for their beauty. Take a moment today to find something new that you like about yourself and celebrate it!

6 weeks left

Just under 6 weeks until the due date for this little guy!

Nathan is SO excited & is already planning all these trips and things to do for "Daddy & baby" time. I'm also excited but am getting a little flustered and wishing we had just a few extra weeks to finish all the things that still need to be done before he arrives!! I try to just remind myself that the baby won't care what color his room is or any of the other silly little things I stress about as a first time mom. As long as we give him lots of love and attention (and plenty of food!) he will have everything he needs. -Heather

The Big Slide

The kids and I went to the Big Slide in Rocky Ridge. This was their second trip there and they had a blast. We were alone for the first hour that we were there! I wish I had their energy.
They just keep running back up the steps to slide again. If you've never been, you should definitely go! It's tons o' fun and FREE!

Snakes & Ivy

Tiffany & I went to check out a location where we will be shooting photos for an upcoming wedding. As we walked around the golf course looking for potential spots to take the bride & groom we saw this sign:

I was unfortunate to break out with a small patch of what I believe was poison ivy on my leg. Tiffany was lucky enough to escape itchiness so I think she should have to deal with the snake part of the sign. :)

Alluring Eyes

We had a great time with April taking all kinds of photos in a special surprise session for her husband. She is so much fun and of course has those eyes that just capture you in photos. Here are a few appropriate ones to share...

Vacation Bible School

Last week I spent every night at a Safari Adventure vacation Bible school. There were a lot of kids and everyone, including the adult helpers, seemed to have so much fun. By Thursday night I found myself singing one of the catchy songs as I was laying in bed until Nathan said "Com'on! I finally just got it out of my head!!"
Here is a slideshow with some of the photos I took during the week. The rest are here if you want to see. I'm hoping to get a copy of one of the songs from this week to remake the show- that way you will find yourself humming the catchy little tune too. ;)

Update

I thought it was time for a quick update on Tiffany & I. We have been busy with photography but also with many changes in our personal lives! Tiffany and her family moved into a new home and the baby, Kaleb, recently turned 1 year old. Mia & Blake have been trying to be Mom & Dad's little helpers as best they can.

I (Heather) have been adjusting to a big change too -- in approximately 10 1/2 weeks we will be welcoming a little boy into our family! This is our first baby so we are trying our hardest to be prepared... but from what we are told, you will never be fully ready and just need to be willing to learn as you go :) Nathan & I are so excited (and nervous!) and are counting down the weeks until we finally get to meet our little guy face to face.

So that's a quick update for now. I am going to make an effort to post regularly so make sure to keep checking back!

Billy & Wendy

We had the pleasure of photographing Wendy and Billy's wedding on February 19th. It was a beautiful ceremony and fun reception. Wendy wanted photos in the park and the snow was perfect for it. Although I have a lot more editing to do, here are a few faves so far! .... ok, maybe more than a few! Enjoy and check back soon for a link to view all of the photos. ~Tiffany

Goodbye, Dobby

My husband, Nathan, and I had to make a very tough decision to give one of our dogs away. He was due for vaccinations and we just didn't have the money for it or the continued cost of care. We found a wonderful family to take him in and provide a loving home. We had him for a year and our other dog, Lycan, is now trying to transition back into life without a constant playmate. (which was the reason we got Dobby to begin with.) Thankfully our next door neighbors are friends of ours with a dog that also needs playtime so we are able to have doggie 'play dates' for them.

So with much love and sadness, but hope for his future, we say goodbye to Dobby.
